What is Clinical Psychology?
Clinical psychology is a multifaceted discipline dedicated to understanding, assessing, and treating mental health issues, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and psychological disorders. It combines scientific research with practical therapeutic approaches to help individuals improve their psychological well-being and daily functioning. Overall, clinical psychology aims not only to reduce symptoms but also to promote long-term mental health, resilience, and personal growth.
As a practitioner I approach therapy from a relational perspective focusing on the relationship between client and therapist whilst engaging in psychodynamic analysis and interpretation. In addition to this I employ different dialetical, relational, cognitive-behavioural, or systemic strategies tailored to suit the unique needs of each person. Our therapeutic relationship focuses on promoting mental health and fostering personal growth and healing.
When should I consider starting therapy?
It may take some consideration before you decide you’re ready for therapy. You might want to wait and see if time, lifestyle changes, or the support of friends and family improves whatever you’re struggling with. You may want to consider seeing a therapist when something causes distress and interferes with some part of your life.
Additionally if you experience any emotions or feelings to the extent that they interfere with life, therapy may help you reduce their effects. These emotions can include feeling overwhelmed, overtly fatigued, intense or disproportionate rage or anger, significant anxiety or intrusive thoughts, hopelessness, apathy, and social withdrawal.

A session is usually 50 minutes depending on the needs of the client. The number of sessions depends on the nature and complexity of the complaint. Each person and difficulty is unique and will thus require a unique treatment approach.
